Mrs G’s post

by PWSux on March 21, 2011

{Updated:  Suffice it to say that this post is now “posted with permission”. :)  Also suffice it to say that Mrs. G is fucking AWESOME dude and we maybe (crosses fingers) haven’t seen the last of her, uh, work!}

Last week a reader shot me an email and let me know that Mrs. G has apparently closed Derfwad Manor (aka The Women’s Colony) so the link to her beautifully written post was no longer valid.  I checked it out myself and discovered she was right.  I searched high and low for a way to contact Mrs. G and, so far, haven’t found one.  I located a cached copy of her post and have put it here as well as in the forum. {PWSux update: I did have an email exchange with Mrs. G and I’m happy to say that the issue was technical issues with her host so the post is still there but she did give me permission to keep it here as well.}

I’m of the opinion that this is a very important situation because for many it was the first red flag or possibly even the straw that broke The Pioneer Woman’s back – it certainly was for me.  Mrs. G was very well known in blogging circles and a well-liked guest poster over at Ree’s site so it was VERY eye-opening for a lot of us to see how Ree handled the situation, not to mention the fact that she later deleted the entire post on her site so it’s like it never happened.  I noticed she left many of Mrs. G’s posts up so it wasn’t quite as thorough a cleansing as when Dutch Girl left, but still – very chickenshit of her.

If you’re unaware of the backstory leading up to this situation (and anyone who remembers more detail, please feel free to jump in) let me summarize.  Mrs. G was a paid guest poster in the homeschooling section of The Pioneer Woman and, from everything I remember, things went along swimmingly for quite some time until this particular incident.

The post was available on the internet (and still is) for years, however, I want to make it known that if I do hear from Heather asking that it be removed from my site, I will.

I’ve copied this post exactly as it was but have added a couple of editing notes which are clearly marked.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Intolerance  in The First Person (by Heather G.)
Last night I resigned (after many months) as one of Pioneer Woman’s regular homeschooling contributors. I was sad to resign because I love writing about the subject of homeschooling to a large group of readers and because Ree was benevolent in inviting me to be a part of her enormously popular blog and because girlfriend paid me good money for those posts—there are emotional and financial consequences to my decision.
Ree responded to my resignation with kindness and generosity and she expressed regret for how the whole situation went down (more on that in a sec). I told her I was going to write honestly and respectfully about this experience one time and then never mention it again. And I won’t. She politely requested two things:
Request # 1: To please not paint Pioneer Woman Readers with a broad brush, because the post {PWSux editing note: that post was LONG ago deleted by Ree} that caused some folks to instigate this blogospheric Jihad received mainly positive comments (that is true), and because she had the experience of meeting hundreds of thousands of her readers during her book tour and they were the nicest people in the world. I absolutely agree with her (there isn’t a blogger of Ree’s stature who doesn’t have a minority of oddballs) and will honor this request because I, in general, try to avoid painting anyone with a broad brush—with one exception that both delights and vexes my readers: I think people who cheat on their spouses are knuckleheaded bottom feeders.
Request # 2: To please, as someone in her inner circle, keep our behind the scenes conversations private. Now as much as I (and my ego) would like to consider myself as part of Ree’s inner circle, she is simply being gracious in granting me that status. We have never met. We have never talked on the phone. Our communication has been confined to short (mainly five sentence) and sweet emails and two instant message exchanges—no deep conversations, but, nevertheless, I will, with one exception that pertains to a poor choice on my part, honor that request as well.
So, anyone over here looking for internet drama is going to be thoroughly disappointed.
Finally…How The Whole Situation Went Down.
On Thursday, I submitted a homeschooling post to Ree on how I chose to teach my own children (now teenagers) religion.  I wrote Ree that I hoped it would be interpreted in the spirit in which it was intended. She said she would post it, and we both acknowledged it would be interpreted in many different ways. Most writing is.
Now I’m going to speak to the poor choice I mentioned up above. Ree asked me to edit the first paragraph. It originally began: “I have been reading Pioneer Woman long enough to know that most of her readers homeschool for religious reasons…” Ree wrote back and asked me to edit my first few lines because she didn’t,  ”want to reinforce the contention on the part of the occasional detractor that PW readers are largely right wing Chreeschins. :) ” I changed the opening sentences and it was a huge mistake, which I regret, because any writer worth her salt knows changing something she believes to be true is selling out, and I cop to it. I ignored my intuition to try to disarm readers, to let them know I wasn’t waltzing in like some spiritual authority.
Ree put the post up on Thursday night and when I opened my laptop on Friday morning, my inbox was filled with hate mail assuring me that I was going to hell, was a horrible parent, a scourge to the Pioneer Woman’s blog and just about everything but a child of God. The Women’s Colony, this blog, had been hijacked by internet trolls who left an enormous amount of cruel comments and scripture quotes from what seemed close to 77% of the Bible.
“Satan, that deceived the whole world. He was thrown down to earth, and all his angels with him.” (Rev. 12: 9)
“Put on all the armor that God gives you, so that you will be able to stand up against the Devil’s evil tricks. For we are not fighting against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities and cosmic powers of this dark age.” (Eph. 6: 11-12)
“Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Be firm in your faith and resist him.” (1 Peter 5: 8-9)
You get the idea.
I also made another huge mistake. In the homeschooling post I submitted, I linked my daughter’s amazing essay on her own spiritual journey. Apparently, there are lousy, deplorable  grownups in the world who feel comfortable insulting and mocking a teenager’s most vulnerable thoughts…but I just kept deleting.
So, Ree and I touched base, and she asked me if I wanted her to moderate the negative comments. {PWSux editing note:  how……. odd that she would ask Mrs. G if she wanted comments moderated when she so HEAVILY moderates them for her own posts?} I told her no, because I thought it would be counterintuitive to the heart of the post. She said she had gotten a few negative emails, and I told her I had received many. We left it at that.
The Christian hate mail and comments kept coming in.
And in the interest of full disclosure, I had some atheists come after me, too. They resented that I was shoving religion down my kids’ throats.
Honestly, it was like a harmonic convergence of halfwits.
I’d like to take a moment to thank the Jews for leaving me alone.
One commenter said she had watched some of my videos and that I was obviously a foul mouthed alcoholic who, get this, had to drink to get through the Christmas holidays, and that I had some serious mental problems.
All true…and somehow it helped to know at least one reader really “got” me.
By Saturday, I was losing it, so I put up a post requesting that anyone who had issues they wanted to discuss that had nothing to do with content on the Women’s Colony please quit leaving comments on the blog and just email me directly. I gave out both my email addresses and I promised to respond politely to each and every one. Plenty of people emailed (and I did write them all back—except for a moronathon named Jan Westemeier who told me she was shocked to read I was only 42 because I looked 60 and that I need to dye my hair and get new glasses and aspire to look like Courtney Cox because she’s 42 and LOOK AT HER!) but the comments on the blog continued.
Late Saturday night, we received two phone calls. One from a woman damning me to hell and the other from a guy quoting some gibberish from Saint Anthony…I didn’t really get the gist of his point, because I hung up on his Jesus, Mary and Joseph loving ass. I don’t use my last name on this blog (though most readers know it), but apparently some sleuthy readers looked into my children’s Facebook information and took more opportunities to introduce them to the path of righteousness and, bless their hearts, pray for my kids’ souls. It was at this point that I started to feel fear. I took the phone off the hook.
I woke up Sunday to more hate mail, more comments to delete and, finally,
PERSONAL RAGE.
If I ruled my own house, I would have spent the day swigging gin & tonics and She-Hulk stomping through the house screaming obscenities. But I don’t rule my own house. I have a family—who, incidentally, didn’t ask for any of this, so I went grocery shopping to get fancy foods for us to eat while we watched the Oscars. Yay Hurt Locker!
And then I wrote my resignation to Ree. I explained that I could deal with cruel comments because, hey, that’s blogging. I explained that I could handle the emails because, hey, at least they’re contained, right?
But handle the phone calls, the violation of my family, The insult to my hair?
No.
Ree finally weighed in on the whole situation late Sunday afternoon. You can find it in the homeschooling section four posts down—it’s comment 207 of 222. {PWSux editing note:  actually you can’t because the chickenshit “Keepin’ it Real” Queen of Bullshit, Ree, deleted the entire thing in what we like to refer to as, The Image/Brand Cleanup.}
Along with the bashing, it was equally disturbing to receive emails from readers (hers and mine) who insisted their supportive comments weren’t getting through, weren’t being published. Apparently the comments section was being carefully orchestrated to create a vibe that was palatable to those who were offended and those who were not.
When I resigned, I wrote the following:
I know you can’t be responsible for the hundreds of thousands of people who read your blog, but I’ll tell you this: I would have made a request to my paltry readership to perhaps relax and take it easy rather than leave an easy breezy comment (I truly get that you don’t want to offend anybody) at what is hopefully the end of this unpleasant journey of hate or, as you put it in your comment ‘anonymous shenanigans.’
And I would have.
Wow. Glad I got to read this before it MIGHT be taken down.
What a joke. Ree, the Queen of Sunshine right out the asshole.
And yet, she tours on, selling her bullshit, like the snake oil it is.
Amanda March 21, 2011 at 10:42 am
Wow, what an asshole Ree is! I was sort of over the whole rancher’s wife thing but this is a new kind of low!
anon. March 21, 2011 at 10:46 am
The comments SUPPORTING Mrs. G weren’t allowed – that’s just incredible. And very disturbing.
UnReel OK Housewife March 21, 2011 at 12:43 pm
I don’t doubt that Mrs. G received emails from supporters stating that their comments weren’t getting through, but there were some comments supporting Mrs. G’s post. My best guess is that when comments started becoming inflammatory, the moderation began in earnest and I would imagine there was moderation on comments from both sides. I’m not supporting PW in anyway in all of this because in my opinion, she did throw Mrs. G under the bus on this issue and I think she probably lost the respect of a lot of her readers.
S August 28, 2011 at 1:17 am
I tried to make a comment to support Mrs. G as I consider her a true blogging friend of mine. They were moderated the Hell outta there.
Karen March 21, 2011 at 11:07 am
I loved Mrs. G’s homeschooling posts, and here’s why: She didn’t pretend to be perfect. She didn’t sanitize herself. She showed homeschooling for all it is: A journey, sometimes frightening, sometimes calm, but nearly always rewarding. I particularly loved her post on how Domino’s Pizza saved her marriage. That’s the other thing: She never painted an overly rosy picture of her marriage or homelife. She was real. Not just ‘keepin’ it real,” but real.
The current homeschooling contributors kind of turn my stomach. OMSH with her PERFECT homeschooling room (how many of us have that kind of space or budget for all those doo dads? Not many), her kids are always, always doing stuff, whereas there are days my kids honestly do just their assigned work and then run around like little Hottentots. I get a serious insecurity complex when I read her posts.
JennNY March 21, 2011 at 3:22 pm
Karen.. it’s ok.. she HAS to do things w/her kids… so she can post something.. we don’t need to post anything.. so we can just have our kids do their required books and then run around like Hottentots! LOL :)
PWSux March 21, 2011 at 4:43 pm
Well no shit! Anyone who charges a BARE MINIMUM “STARTING POINT” of $4,000 for a blog design is probably going to have some coin laying around. LOL
Homschlr4ever March 21, 2011 at 9:17 pm
Keep being a Hottentot Karen. I don’t know how old your kids are but we are almost done. Our youngest is a junior and I’m telling you, some days I think, “Wow, I’ve really f****ed you up.” But, honestly, my kids have great memories of pajamas all day, watching spongebob with cereal for lunch, day trips to nowhere because I couldn’t get my act together and ended up just driving somewhere – I’m geographically illiterate – and having to do school during the summer because we haven’t finished…, math. Laugh, because I’m actually a chemistry teacher.
Keep that sense of humor, it’s imperative
MyReeHurts March 21, 2011 at 11:14 am
Wow, I didn’t know any of this, and it’s pretty disturbing. Totally irresponsible of Ree, and her readers are freaks.
Hannah March 21, 2011 at 11:19 am
I’d like to know more about the Dutch Girls story. I do follow her blog and really like her recipes.
Stella March 21, 2011 at 11:47 am
Where do you find her blogs? And what is the story about her? This is the first I’ve heard about the Dutch girl.
..Stella..
PWSux March 21, 2011 at 12:02 pm
Dutch Girl is Kay over at Kayotic Kitchen http://www.kayotic.nl/blog/ and she used to be a contributor (not sure if paid or not but I would assume paid) at The Pioneer Woman. She’s a FANTASTIC cook and takes beautiful pics, although she does sort of a collage thing so you’re not scrolling through 10 pics of chopping an onion. She’s also incredibly gorgeous, I mean like breath-taking (gee, maybe I have another girl-crush? LOL) Well one day she’s just ~poof~ GONE from Ree’s. Just disappeared. All her recipes and posts disappeared right along with her like she wasn’t ever there. Apparently there was one time when Ree posted a recipe, as her own, and Kay commented saying something to the effect of, “you can find that recipe here,” with a link. Sort of like, “hey bitch, that’s my recipe and I already posted it”. LOL
I want to be CRYSTAL CLEAR HERE — THAT is speculation and ONLY speculation on the part of a few readers and myself. WE ARE NOT SAYING THAT WE KNOW WHY SHE DISAPPEARED. This is rumor and speculation only! A lot of readers think that PW’s readers expressing their appreciation for the way Kay presented her pics, her beauty, and Ree’s “stealing” recipes from others are the reason that Kay left. Again, WE DO NOT KNOW THAT TO BE FACT!
That said, when I was compiling links for this site I emailed Kay and she responded. She was very very gracious in her response and said that she didn’t want to provide the details but that I could say that she responded and said her falling out with Ree was on a personal nature and she declined to comment further.
BA March 21, 2011 at 1:57 pm
Oh, o.k. I remember hearing some of that. Did not know that Kayotic Kitchen also went by Dutch Girl. That reminds me, I’ll have to check out her site again.
The Marlboro Woman March 21, 2011 at 3:52 pm
REEzilla posted 37 pics of an effing panini sandwich today. It’s grilled cheese for God’s sakes!!
PWSux March 21, 2011 at 3:55 pm
What I think is interesting about that is that she mentioned “lightening up” briefly – something to the affect of lightening this up a little since it’s almost summer and she can’t hide jiggly parts under a black turtleneck much longer. And I thought to myself, “Self. She’s absolutely right. And the first thing I do when I lightening shit up is put some mayo on BOTH pieces of bread and add two damn slices of cheese instead of four.”
Who DOES that? Who lightens up with double mayo and two slices of cheese? LOL
Karen March 21, 2011 at 4:26 pm
And I thought to myself, “Self. She’s absolutely right. And the first thing I do when I lightening shit up is put some mayo on BOTH pieces of bread and add two damn slices of cheese instead of four.”
THAT was frakkin’ hilarious. I laughed out loud.
Peaches March 21, 2011 at 11:34 am
Thanks for posting this. I read it through a link a while back, but it’s still infuriating. Stupid Ree-otch.
sageNV March 21, 2011 at 11:35 am
Incredible… The more I know the more embarrassed I am for EVER reading PW’s blog. There are no words…
Tiffany March 21, 2011 at 11:48 am
I second the request for “The Dutch Girl” story. Never heard of it until mentioned in this post. But I’m fairly new to your blog. Please enlighten!
BA March 21, 2011 at 12:02 pm
I’ll third the request for The Dutch Girl. Never heard of that blog either. Mrs. G’s blog was fun to read and I miss her.
Suz March 21, 2011 at 6:56 pm
you know, R_ _ has a “planting tulips” post today. Kinda makes you want to say something to her along the lines. . . .Way to go, Dutch Girl.
Sorry. Being too snarky!
PWSux March 21, 2011 at 12:09 pm
Oh for pete’s sake, I just went to The Women’s Colony/Derfwad Manor and the entire site is back up! LOL I SWEAR to you that when I was emailing with this reader a few days ago it was blank, like a login page or something.
Maybe I should just take this post down.
Stella March 21, 2011 at 12:22 pm
No, don’t!! Leave it here, cuz it’s educating all of us.
Now dahling…….fill us in on the Dutch Girl!!!
..Stella..
PWSux March 21, 2011 at 12:28 pm
I did, I did! Right up there above in the comments. LOL
UnReel OK Housewife March 21, 2011 at 12:22 pm
Yep, it was down for a few days. and is back. I check it regularly hoping against hope that Mrs. G will return.
PWSux March 21, 2011 at 12:28 pm
So it wasn’t just that acid that I dropped then and imagined the whole thing? Whew! Good to know.
UnReel OK Housewife March 21, 2011 at 12:29 pm
Or maybe we were on the same trip … who knows how long it will stay up this time.
The Marlboro Woman March 21, 2011 at 3:33 pm
You’re not dreaming. I clicked on that site the day Mrs. G closed it down, so yes for a time being, it was gone. Glad she’s back.
Jennine March 21, 2011 at 12:31 pm
Before I read this post, I viewed Ree as annoying.
Now I think she’s a total bitch.
Stella March 21, 2011 at 1:14 pm
Ditto!!!!
..Stella..
Suz March 21, 2011 at 4:39 pm
I looked at Kayotic Kitchen/Dutch Girl today. She has very good photos, as well as recipes.
I found this recipe of hers and photos: Country Style Green Beans / Nov. 09, 2010. She says the recipe is a “couple years old” when she used to guest blog. She apologized for the picture quality. I thought her photo looked just like one of R_ _’s.
Suz March 21, 2011 at 4:43 pm
Without a tripod. . . with a terrible color balance.
And that’s why R _ _ always has pink alien hands.
Suz March 21, 2011 at 4:53 pm
Sorry for this 3rd post — geez — senior moments this afternoon. I did NOT mean to imply this was one of R_ _’s photos. No, no, no, no. I just thought it looked like what R_ _ posts.
Suz March 21, 2011 at 4:54 pm
SIMILAR. That’s what I meant! In the same style of.
OK — I’m outta here!
Kait March 21, 2011 at 5:23 pm
She originally posted the recipe on PW’s site saying that PW was so very busy and she had asked Kay to do her a veggie recipe for Thanksgiving or something. People loved her recipe and were upset when it disappeared form PW’s site. So, within time Kay has started to add those she did for PW to her own site.
nanne March 21, 2011 at 5:08 pm
homeschooling & pw aside, mrs. g is an incredibly talented, honest and very, very funny writer. i hope she starts posting on her blog again.
Albug March 22, 2011 at 3:38 pm
I so agree. I’m hoping for a book, a real book, from Mrs. G. If she writes it and gets it published, I believe she will make the NY Times Best Sellers list without having to shill it on a blog first. Her wit will carry her through and her writing will make it pay.
poppy March 21, 2011 at 5:32 pm
I totally agree. Lighten up with mustard, not mayo. Don’t puree oil-packed sun dried toms with pesto and mayo. Hello, fat cals?! Toast the sandwich in the oven, don’t butter both sides and press it. How about just spritz it with a little olive oil? Surely she has a Misto. No cheese. Eat half the sandwich not the whole. Go for a run. Do some yoga. Eat a salad instead. Don’t talk about how fat you are after posting disgusting recipes for sourcreamcottagecheesehamburger surprise. Give me a break! I am so tired of her drawing attention to herself by trying to garner pity.
Just Peachy March 21, 2011 at 7:05 pm
Who knew dieting is so easy!? Just toss a handful of grapes next to that sandwich and it becomes a “wiser choice”.
Suz March 21, 2011 at 7:39 pm
did you see the color of those grapes?? Would you want to put something that color of green in your mouth?
Just Peachy March 22, 2011 at 9:28 am
Good point. It’s pretty sad when food pictures are Photoshopped to the point that the colors resemble nothing in nature.
Suz March 21, 2011 at 6:19 pm
Even Paula Deen posts some “light” recipes. They are usually the recipes of her sons, but still. They are lighter.
With PW’s supposedly huge sphere of influence, she could certainly take a stand against childhood obesity. It is really so sad that she does not do that.
To whom much is given, much is required.
JB March 21, 2011 at 6:43 pm
I e-mailed Ree about the whole Mrs. G mess. This is what I said:
“Hello,
This is the type of comment that Mrs G is getting on her site in response to a (great) homeschooling post on your site:
‘You are a disgrace. I hope your never allowed to post at PW again. You’ve dug your own grave. I feel sorry for your kid. (signed) -godfearing’ [sic]
I can’t even try to understand this mentality. Just thought you should be aware.”
And this was the condescending response I got from Ree:
“That’s too bad.
Unfortunately, that’s just the nature of the internet—anytime you put yourself out there (sometimes in the most innocuous ways) there are bound to be people (both anonymous or not) who want to vent their responses and opinions. It’s simply the world we live in. I do think she’s gotten a lot more kind, generous feedback than not, particularly on my site…but I tend to focus on the positive too much. ;)
That’s what did it for me. She did not even bat an eye.
NC Gal March 21, 2011 at 6:59 pm
Kind and generous support on her site? Was she THERE that day? what a crock!
JB March 21, 2011 at 7:39 pm
Of course Ree was there, bouncing around in her bubble while Mrs. G was being outright harassed by her readers. Ree did not accept one iota of responsibility.
I was livid at her response. It was the e-mail equivalent to a pat on the head.
Just Peachy March 21, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Interesting! It’s very revealing of Ree’s character that she allowed negative comments toward Mrs. G to remain, yet she immediately deletes any negative opinions or responses toward her own writings. Hypocritical hag.
wineinmyglass March 21, 2011 at 6:44 pm
I love Mrs G too.
Every time she never failed to present the facts for a story.
One I particularly loved and I am not sure it’s still out there was….
Her son taped it as hse was talking.
She is standing on her patio deck with a arm full of Diet books
she reads the title of each and tosses it into BBQ
so on and so on then she takes a match and lights it on fire,
ending with tossing in a stick of butter.
It was freaking funny I hope it’s still on her bog.
NC Gal March 21, 2011 at 6:56 pm
To say that Ree tossed Mrs. G. under the bus is an understatement. She allowed her readers to become unhinged over that homeschooling post and run amok, yet those of us posting questions and comments in support of Mrs. G. over at PW either had them removed immediately or they were never posted at all. My initial comment went from somewhere in the #120s to the #80s before disappearing entirely. Subsequent attempts failed. Total bullshit!!! Ree piles it high and piles it deep with her fake, “aw, shucks!” nonsense! The restraint showed by Mrs. G. amazes me to this day. She remains a class act.
UnReel OK Housewife March 21, 2011 at 9:09 pm
“The restraint showed by Mrs. G. amazes me to this day. She remains a class act.” And for that, she has my never-ending respect and devotion.
Cat, Chaps and Emma March 21, 2011 at 8:49 pm
gREEd is a shallow excuse for a human. I believe that gREEd has a flash mob following that she turns loose on folks like Mrs. G. It is just my opinion, but I think that gREEd was behind all of those comments directed to Mrs. G. It is also just my opinion, but I think gREEd has a network that she alerts to descend upon those she gives the go ahead to. Like alerting a flash mob!
The main folks in her flash mob are her employees. They incite the masses. The masses that love the junk she unloads on them!
The mindless masses!
Homschlr4ever March 21, 2011 at 9:35 pm
I know this may sound a bit stupid, but, how many employees does she have? I have a great deal of disrespect for her on many levels but it would grow exponentially if I knew she actually had employees to work her blog. I know she has guest bloggers. I know she’s fake, for instance how many people, whether you eat meat or not, can say that once her husbands cattle are loaded and shipped to a feed lot that their lives are wonderful and not bat an eyelid? She should be put in a feed lot and then say she knows how good those cattle have it.
In any case, she can’t even handle her own blog? WTF, she’s not Angelina Jolie.
Bartian March 22, 2011 at 8:51 am
She has 2 full-time teachers to homeschool her kids, a full-time housekeeper and more as needed, and if you could have had private photography lessons for TWO years with Ralph Cole you too could take great photos. She started homeschooling because her boy got beat up at school and Ladd said no more.
REEpetitive March 22, 2011 at 8:58 am
Bartian, how do you know all of that? Where did you get that information? I thought it was only her eldest girl who ever went to school, and then they started homeschooling. How do you know about the two teachers, and the private photo lessons?
PWSux March 22, 2011 at 9:42 am
Whoa there Bartian! I’m all for locals, friends, or family providing details but you have to know that all of what you just posted is COMPLETELY different that what PW has said publicly or that we’ve come across “behind the scenes”. I hate, HATE, to do this but I need to put a disclaimer on your comment just now that we really don’t know if any of what you said is true.
That said, please for the love of God, tell me how you know all of that. And if you don’t want to announce it publicly here then by all means email me at admin@thepioneerwomansux.com and let me know through there then you and I will work together on how to word it here to protect you, if needed.
Readers, until we hear something more with something backing this up, let’s assume this is heresay and not go repeating it as fact. And Bartian, please understand that I don’t mean to doubt you in any way but I’d like to at least make an effort that something this major is true if someone’s going to come across it here on my site. I hope you understand. :)
REEflux March 22, 2011 at 3:59 pm
Bartian…is from Bartlesville. Me thinks there is some fact here.
Merely a *burp* away,
Remember that young calf that she blogged about? She was lactating and running off to bottle feed the baby calf? Well, that calf generated about 100K in comments. Now that calf is food that her followers are eating. gREEd never did a blog about that! gREEd is a hoax. Do her sheep not have memories?
gREEd is a hoax!
What ever happened to Pastor Ryan? Remember him?
poppy March 21, 2011 at 11:07 pm
I know that he went to see her at her book signing in Cincy. You can catch up with him here: http://www.thisisreverb.com/. Funny, ’cause I was just thinking about Jaden Hair from Steamy Kitchen the other day. Ree used to talk about her all the time. Suddenly, nothing. Weird. Maybe the blogging community has decided to distance themselves. She isn’t a part of the Food Blogger Alliance and doesn’t appear to take part in any of the workshops or camps. Anyone have any ideas?
Pastor Ryan March 22, 2011 at 9:47 am
Pastor Ryan was in a pretty bad motorcycle accident about 7 months ago. He kind of stopped doing everything for a while…including doing guest posts. He doesn’t read the pioneer woman’s blog very often…mostly because it’s chick stuff. But one thing remains true – he loves Ree, but that’s probably because he knows her and her family in person.
REEpetitive March 22, 2011 at 10:12 am
Hey Pastor Ryan! I’ve enjoyed your guest posts on Ree’s site.
How do you feel about Pioneer Woman’s duplicity and lack of honesty? It’s difficult when you’re friends with someone and on a one to one basis they are kind and friendly and personable, as I assume Ree is with you. But, you must see why others judge her harshly, don’t you?
The BLM contract where wealthy ranchers out west get even wealthier and ranchers like the Drummonds get wealthier all on the public dime. That’s not ethical, is it?
Her pretense that she’s just a little ol’ down home rancher’s wife is not supported by you, is it?
Her whole blog is based on her idea of “keepin’ it real” and she’s done everything but keep it real since she began. Do you believe in lies of omission?
Was it kind of her to throw Mrs. G. under the bus? Would you put readership on the line to do what’s right? I bet you would. I think you would. I don’t know if you would.
What we do know is that Ree threw Mrs. G. to the rabid wolves of her readership in the most cynical, calloused, cowardly way.
What are your thoughts on this Pastor Ryan? Especially as a Christian, believing the words of Christ, as you understand them, I’d like your perspective on Ree’s behavior and portrayal to the world on her blog.
I’m putting you in an awkward position, but it’s one you kind of signed up for by posting here. What say you?
Melanie March 22, 2011 at 2:52 pm
I don’t really think it’s fair to hold Pastor Ryan accountable for Ree’s crimes.
Cat, Chaps and Emma March 22, 2011 at 7:45 pm
I am really interested in hearing what Pastor Ryan has to say. Obviously, he “Loves Ree”, but he does not read Ree because it is “chick stuff”? I beg to differ. gREEd is nothing more than drivel attached to a marketing machine. I ask you Pastor Ryan, is that what you mean about “chick stuff”? Please explain.
Thanks!
Sorry to hear about your accident.
Wondering why ivoryhut stopped doing guestposts tho!
Karen March 22, 2011 at 10:55 am
Ivoryhut’s house burned down not too long ago (naturally, PW couldn’t be bothered to do a post about it, she tweeted though, to show she cared). She and her family were lucky to make it out alive, but they lost everything. She’s blogging again, but I’m sure guest blogging was the last thing on her mind as they picked up the pieces.
Is Ivory Hut and Miz Booshay the same person? I can’t remember.
Stella March 23, 2011 at 9:51 am
I don’t really think this is “Pastor Ryan” actually posting. It’s someone who knows Pastor Ryan and is using his moniker.
Really, if Pastor Ryan loved Ree so much, why would he frequent a hate site??
..Stella..
poppy March 23, 2011 at 10:49 am
It’s really him. We linked his site, so he came to check it out and defended his friend. Hopefully, Pastor Ryan will keep and open mind and read through some of the posts to see what Ree’s been up to as she moves to market her brand.
I read this disturbing post a while ago. Made me sick. And her sheeples just keep on coming back.
I am finally having some influence on a good friend of mine who was totally blind to Ree (went and created custom wrapping paper stationary in collage style (my friend is known for doing such personal craft projects for friends and loved ones) for her of PW pics on Rees last stop in her town bookshop a couple months back . Apparently my friend posted this insanely long comment on Ree valentines questionaire about favorite love pairs. She poured out her soul, sharing all her favorite love pairs in childhood books, movies, TV, literature etc ….a combination of choices that make my friend unique and special and adorable. I told her to be prepared to have her special personality stolen by Ree and she replied in all innocence that she (my friend) shared it so Ree could share it with her own daughters. She was initially innocently indignant at the thought of Ree doing such a deceiving, stealthy and unethical thing. (those were her words! finally some progress!!!).
Lately though she is seeing my point more and more. I directed her to this site and for a while she was resistant. She has now been reading this site. This site is finally opening her eyes. Now my friend is actually apprehensive that her combination of ideas and contribution (most, not all, on their own are not uncommon, although some certainly are, but the combination of all of them is for sure special) will be stolen by Ree. Apparently it is a bond she has with all of her sisters and she doesn’t want their special thing abused.
I told her if Ree so much as goes near what my friend shared or one specific unique idea I once shared that I don’t want her to ever use, I’m after her.
Seems Ree just has no scruples.
Debbie March 22, 2011 at 9:03 am
Apparently she also has an entire team for Tasty Kitchen. Received an email from the TK staff.
PWSux March 22, 2011 at 9:45 am
I think this is pretty well known. TK is definitely a horse of a different color and I would figure there’s several people running that show.
Lily March 22, 2011 at 2:46 pm
ok, I finally just read through all the comments. My comment was a non sequiter. Sorry :)
Reepetitive, thank you for voicing some of my questions too.
Regarding what BArtian wrote, although I never knew the exact details liek her such as Ralph Cole, the precise number of homeschoolong teachers etc, I always figured it was something in that neighbrohood, if not more. People, are you really that shocked? I mean, waht is the big surprise??? She is a total phoney, liar, deceiver on every level.
Lily March 22, 2011 at 2:51 pm
However, PWSux, if you fact check that info and it is true, it is time for a serious expose’
Ryan I hope you are on the mend, I enjoyed your posts on PW.
I’m more appalled at the utter lack of grace shown to Mrs. G. by the readers.
I haven’t read Ree’s site regularly for awhile. Once it became the marketing machine that it is, I felt it REALLY lost what little authenticity it had, and my interest waned completely.
I read Mrs. G’s post on that subject, and I believe I commented in discussion. I promise I was kind!
However, those readers engaged in what can really only be regarded as Christian terrorism. Speaking as a Christian, Mrs. G, I’m so very sorry. The gospel of love doesn’t condemn others to hell. There’s a verse in the Bible about not judging others. Apparently they forgot that one. Take heart, that at some point in the future, they’ll be reminded.
Peace, Mrs. G. You carry on with your awesome self.
Kate in Michigan July 31, 2011 at 1:00 pm
Hey — Mrs. G is back!!
I’m thinking that too, but I’d really prefer to have something, anything, resembling “evidence” (gosh I hate to use that word!) before that rumor turns into truth kwim?
